Scientists in the United States have developed a white paint on buildings that is whiter than any white paint ever produced.
Researchers at Purdue University have experimented with this whitest color, showing that it reflects up to 98% of sunlight, returning it instead of absorbing it.

According to Professor Julian Rowan, a leading researcher at Purdue University in Indiana, USA, the white colors commonly found in markets reflect 80 to 90 percent of sunlight.
“It’s a great thing because every one percent of light reflected reduces the heat of the sun by 10 watts per square meter.”
Professor Julian Rowan said that if the whitest color was used on a 1,000-square-foot roof, it could provide as much cooling as an air conditioner using 10 kilowatts of electricity. It is much better than central air conditioners in ordinary homes.
Can white contribute to the global problem of climate change?
Cool white roofs are considered an easy way to improve the urban climate. In New York City, USA, 10 million square feet of roofs have recently been whitewashed.
White roofs have been encouraged in California by changing building regulations. Its benefits are being researched, but several studies so far have shown that white can reduce the demand for electricity.
“We have made a general calculation. We think we need to paint it the whitest in the world at one percent. Maybe in an area where people don’t live and there are only rocks, and that could be helpful in dealing with climate change. “
How is this color made the whiteest?
The new dye contains a compound of barium sulfate that is also used in photo paper and cosmetics.
Professor Rowan explains that a very large amount of particles have been added to this mixture and different sizes of these particles have been used because the waves of sunlight have different colors depending on their wavelengths.
Barium sulfate particles reflect the amount of light in terms of their size. “So we have deliberately used different particle sizes to reflect every wavelength of light.”
Can everyone buy this color?
Researchers are working with a company to develop and sell the color on a large scale, and they say the price should be the same as for ordinary paints.
“A museum has already shown interest in this color,” says Professor Rowan. This museum wants to keep our whitest color with a darkest color.
The darkest color was created by scientists in 2014 which is called Venta Black. It absorbs all the light inside. Therefore, its possible use is the exact opposite of the whitest color.
The darkest color, for example, is used in space telescopes because it absorbs all the surrounding light that can interfere with the process of measuring the light of objects in the depths of space. But this darkest color is not available to everyone.
However, regarding the whitest color, Professor Rowan says that it depends on the manufacturing company for whom it is made, but he hopes that it will be available to everyone in the market.
