In Ethiopia, a schoolgirl told the ENG Publisher how she lost her right hand in an attempt to defend herself when a soldier tried to rape her. The soldier not only wanted to rape her but also forced her grandfather to have sex with her.
The 18-year-old girl (whose identity is being withheld) has been receiving treatment at a hospital in the northern Ethiopian region of Tigre for more than two months.
Tensions in Tegra began in early November 2020 when Prime Minister Abi Ahmed launched an operation to overthrow the region’s ruling party after his militants seized federal military bases.
Most of these children have fled to the mountains with their families. It had displaced many people since November 29, when federal forces captured the Tigris capital, Mikel, and declared victory.
That’s because security forces launched an operation to find members of the TPLF (former ruling party) who refused to surrender, after which troops launched a humanitarian operation against Tigra residents. He has been accused of severe human rights violations. Authorities deny the allegations.
The victim, a schoolgirl, and her grandfather stayed at home in the village of Abi Adi, about 96km west of Macaulay, as it was difficult for them to make the journey to the mountains.
According to the teenage girl,
on December 3, a soldier dressed in an Ethiopian military uniform entered her home and asked where the fighters were.
They searched the house, but no fighters were found, after which the soldier ordered them to lie down on their beds and started firing at them.
According to the victim, she then ordered my grandfather to have sex with her. My grandfather was furious, and he started fighting.
She says the soldier took her grandfather out of the house, shot him in the shoulder and thigh, and then returned to him saying that your grandfather had been killed.
“No one can save you now,” he said. Take off your clothes. ‘
“I begged him not to, but he punched me again and again.”
“The struggle lasted for several minutes, although I was exhausted after being beaten so badly that he finally got so angry that he pulled out a gun.”
“He shot me in the right hand three times. He hit me three times in the leg. Then he heard a gunshot from outside, and he left. ‘
Thankfully, his grandfather survived. Although he was unconscious and injured in the village for two days, he was frightened by the fear of getting help.
The young girl’s story confirms UN envoy Pramila Payton’s concerns about sexual violence during tensions in Tigris.
